Reports from Kano indicate that there has been an explosion at the School of Hygiene, Kano. The blast has been confirmed by ‎spokesperson of the Kano Police, Magaji Majiya. As at the time of filing in this report the Kano state Commissioner of Police and other officers are on their way to the scene of the blast. More news later

Gov. Fashola swears in new adviser

Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Monday restated the commitment of his administration to efficient service delivery in the state. Fashola made the pledge at the administration of oath of office on Mr Folorunsho Folarin- Coker, the new Special Adviser on Central Business District (CBD).The governor gave an assurance that his administration would continue to develop the state and meet the aspirations of the people. Fashola congratulated the new Special Adviser on the appointment and tasked him on responsibilities associated to his office. He said that his duties were not to the government alone, but also to the residents of the state, promising to give him the necessary support. The governor urged Folarin-Coker to work with stakeholders within the CBD to bring more transformation to the districts and improve revenue generation. Osun Guber: Adeleke And Omisore Clash

Minister of Police Affairs Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan has expressed regret for not flogging the first civilian governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, during the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) stakeholders meeting with the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo. Adeleke alleged that the Osun State PDP governorship candidate, Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore, Adesiyan and a retired Customs officer, Mr. Sogo Agboola, beat him at a function a day before the state PDP governorship primaries, in which he planned to run. Adesiyan, who spoke with reporters at the PDP state secretariat, Gbongan Road, Osogbo aat the weekend, denied beating Adeleke. He however said he regretted that he did not flog Adeleke like a baby. Drug abuse: NDLEA arrests 11 children, hotel manager

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it has arrested 11 children and the manager of a hotel in Kaduna over alleged drug abuse and trafficking . The Kaduna State Commander of the agency, Mohammed Jibrin, disclosed this in Kaduna while briefing newsmen on activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The theme for the celebration is, “A Message of Hope: Drug Use Disorders Are Preventable and Treatable’’. Jibrin said the children, seven girls and four boys, were arrested in a hotel room taking psychotropic substance. The student union president along side with some active comrades of the student union lead a peaceful protest around the school premises , and finally return to the senate building where the school authorities is holding an undisclosed agenda meeting and the students analyse their grievances and receive an answer to their demand. They were there for less than one hour before the vice chancellor prof Sulaiman Gbadegeshin came down to address them.  He therefore hail the student populace at large and announce that the school resumes officially on the 30th of june, 2014.

If what the VC says is anything to go by about our resumption date, then it means that the saga between the university management and ASUU has been resolved and therefore, we expect that the pre-degree class should resume back with immediate effect and part-time students screening that was disturbed last week should also commence immediately. Therefore, failure for the two above mentioned students to resumed back to action means: * That the VC has only brainwashed the protesting students in order to avoid them causing nuisance at the senate building. * That the VC is only buying time for himself to resolve the saga between the management and ASUU. * The VC saying registration begins immediately means that the management is likely to give us some weeks for registration without lectures because they know ASUU will not take classes.
