The President of Trade Union Congress, Quadri Olaleye, said organised labour would not go on a warning strike before the main industrial action, if government failed to meet workers’ demand on the implementation of the new minimum wage by the close of work on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of leaders of labour unions on Tuesday in Abuja, organised labour had said it would not guarantee industrial peace in Nigeria, if the Federal Government failed to hold a meeting with labour and accept its demand on the consequential salary adjustment arising from the new minimum wage. Labour said it had demonstrated a great deal of restraint, consideration and patience with government in arriving at the demand of 29% salary increase for officers on salary levels 07 to 14 and 24% adjustment for officers on salary grade levels 15 to 17. The Federal Government claims it spends N3.5m monthly to feed the detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim el-Zakzaky. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made the claim in a video that went viral on the internet on Thursday. If the claim is correct, the government may have spent over N120m to feed the Islamic cleric since he was arrested and detained in December 2015 after his followers were engaged in a bloody clash with the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, in Zaria, Kaduna State. Mohammed, who was apparently addressing reporters, was heard saying in the video that he was giving the journalists the information on an off-the-record basis to serve as a background to their reports. NPDC Targets 500,000 Barrels Of Crude Oil Per Day Production

The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), one of the upstream subsidiaries of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), will increase its daily crude oil production to 500,000 barrels per day before 2022. This target was announced by the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, during the inauguration of the board of directors of the company in Abuja. Addressing the members, the GMD who also doubles as Chairman of the board charged them to grow the company’s assets and ensure that the 500,000 barrels per day crude oil production target is met by 2022”. President Muhammadu Buhari, who assumed office on May 29, 2015, had earlier embarked on a six-day vacation in the United Kingdom between February 5 and 10, 2016. Nasarawa State Deputy Governor ,Silas Agara says the state has never received any ecological fund from the federal government since it was created, adding that the devastating effects of flood which has claimed lives and property is threatening the existence of the people. Alhaji Shettima Yerima, leader, of the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG), has claimed that the October 1 quit notice issued by Arewa youths to Igbos residing in the north had the backing of prominent leaders of the region.
