Blow whistle on police corruption –IG

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has encouraged Nigerians to expose corruption and misconduct in the police by using the various social media platforms set up for the purpose. He assured the people that any police officer found wanting would be severely punished, noting that public scrutiny of the men and women of the Force would contribute to discipline in the service. Idris stated this on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the partnership between the police and Akin Fadeyi Foundation on an anti-corruption initiative titled ‘Corruption, not in my country’. The IG, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Joshak Habila, said he had instituted various reforms and programmes to make the police more accountable, responsible and reliable. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) thursday denied reports that it raided the Abuja residence of the former Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje. Media reports had yesterday hinted that the EFCC raided the Goje’s house  around 6p.m. However,  EFCC Head of Media and Information, Wilson Uwujaren,  said: “Please disregard online reports claiming the EFCC on April 20 raided the Abuja home of Dajuma Goje. “The report is false as the commission was not a part of any such activity.” Sources however said the raid at the Asokoro residence was carried out by the Nigerian police acting on a tip-off by a whistleblower. The suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $289,202,382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, ordered the suspension of Oke over the role of the NIA in the ownership of $43m (about N13bn) and other currencies uncovered in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos. Buhari also ordered the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, in connection with his indictment for contract fraud by a Senate ad hoc committee on mounting humanitarian crisis in the North-East. Man pays N42m tithe to Benue church

A man whose identity has been shielded by a local church in Makurdi, has shocked church members with a tithe offering of N42 million. Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi revealed that the money was paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church High Level Makurdi.  Although the pastor of the church, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, initially denied knowledge of the offering, a copy of the church’s quarterly financial report, covering the months of January – March, confirmed the payment of N42million tithe to the church. The report showed that the lodgement was the highest single offering from an individual for the quarter. The money was paid into the church’s account in January.  The breakdown of the church’s financial report showed an income of N56.2 million and an expenditure of N33.7 million within the same time frame. The $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from an Ikoyi apartment in Lagos was a discreet allocation released to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for major but covert security projects, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. The total value of the money at the Central Bank of Nigeria official exchange rate is over N13 billion. Presidency and security sources told this newspaper on Friday that former President Goodluck Jonathan approved the funds for the 30-year old secret service agency after its immediate past Director General, Olaniyi Oladeji, alerted him to the need for some “crucial and covert security projects”. Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi’s media aide, Mr. David Iyofor has replied the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode who, in a tweet, alleged that Mr. Amaechi indeed owns both the apartment and the billions of money in both local and foreign currencies found on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Lagos. Chief Fani-Kayode had in the tweet, said that, “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in too.NIA story is fake news! DG NIA Ambassador Ayodele Oke last night said will respond to our inquiries today but he is no longer picking our calls. EFCC has not responded to insinuations that NIA claimed ownership of the funds claiming it was being used for covert ops. DG NIA had said he couldn't deny or confirm a report he had not read when pressed he said it was too late that he had a "headache". Since they've launched the Policy and the Whistleblowing channels, they've so far received a total of 282 Tips. These tips comprising: 49 received through Phone Calls, 87 received through SMS, 95 received through the Website, & 51 received by E-mail. The Reward Scheme for Successful Whistleblowers is as follows: 1. Any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of up to 1 billion Naira will receive 5% of the amount. 2. The reward for any amount between 1 and 5 billion Naira will be 5% for the first 1 billion Naira and 4% of the remaining 4 billion Naira. 3. Any amount over 5 billion Naira will attract a 2.5% reward on the portion exceeding 5 billion Naira. This is in addition to what has been laid out in (1) and (2) for the first 5 billion Naira.

I acquired the land & jointly develop it using a bank loan, I obtained about nine yrs ago. However all the flats have been sold to prospective buyers in order to pay back the loan. I do not own or occupy any of the apartments. I sold all the apartments thru established estate agents as such I have no knowledge or interest in who purchases or rents any of the flats. Court Orders Forfeiture Of Recovered $43m, £27,800, N23m To FG

Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sums of $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from an apartment in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Wednesday to the federal government.Justice Hassan made the order after listening to an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC through its counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo praying the court that the funds be forfeited to the federal government pending investigation. Oyedepo had told the court that the commission received intelligence report from an undisclosed source that various sums of money was kept in an apartment located at 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi. The lawyer also told the court that upon the receipt of the information, the anti-graft agency approach the court to obtain a search warrant to enable it conduct a search on the apartment.
