Governor Wike Sacks Rivers Commissioners

PORT HARCOURT – Governor Nyesom Wike has dissolved his cabinet.

A statement Saturday by his Special Assistant, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu announced the development, saying that all former Commissioners should immediately handover to their respectice Permanent secretaries.

“Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dissolved the State Executive Council.

The governor directed all former commissioners to handover to their respective Permanent Secretaries.

Governor Wike thanked the former commissioners for their service to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours. “, it read

Minimum Wage: There’ll Be No Warning Strike, Labour Tells Govt

The President of Trade Union Congress, Quadri Olaleye, said organised labour would not go on a warning strike before the main industrial action, if government failed to meet workers’ demand on the implementation of the new minimum wage by the close of work on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of leaders of labour unions on Tuesday in Abuja, organised labour had said it would not guarantee industrial peace in Nigeria, if the Federal Government failed to hold a meeting with labour and accept its demand on the consequential salary adjustment arising from the new minimum wage. Labour said it had demonstrated a great deal of restraint, consideration and patience with government in arriving at the demand of 29% salary increase for officers on salary levels 07 to 14 and 24% adjustment for officers on salary grade levels 15 to 17. Mixed reactions trail 8th National Assembly elections

Reactions trailed the emergence of Sen. Bukola Saraki as the 8th Senate President and the election of other principal officers of the National Assembly. In Ibadan, Oyo State, Sen. Lekan Balogun, a Chieftain of PDP, described the emergence of Saraki as the new Senate president as a good development for democracy. He said “the leadership of the Senate is very important for the country’s politics.” NAN reports that apart from Saraki, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu also emerged as Deputy Senate President respectively.
