Kwankwaso Wants FG to Adopt Concerted Efforts to Defeat Insurgents

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State has called on the federal government to tackle the insurgency in the country.
Kwankwaso, who is also an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, made the call on Wednesday when he visited Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State in Ibadan.
He described last week bomb blast at the Central Mosque, Kano, as unfortunate.

“The federal government must brace up to tackle the insurgents, who are attacking and killing innocent Nigerians everyday,” he said.
The governor, who said that his administration had beendoing a lot to tackle insecurity, stressed the need for more concerted efforts to defeat the insurgents.
“When I was sworn in 2011, I did a lot to support security inthe state.

“You know security is not only about police, State Security
Service (SSS) and other agencies, but there is job, food and
health security too,’’ he said.
He promised that if voted as the president of the country in 2015, he would ensure that the Boko Haram phenomenon becomes a thing of the past.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the aspirant was in Ibadan to meet with the South-west delegates ahead of the party’s congress on December 10.

Kwankwaso will contest the party’s primaries with Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, among others.

Buhari meets BBOG campaigners, says military doing its best

ABUJA , (Reuters) – Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held his first meeting with campaigners calling for the release of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram militants in the northeastern town of Chibok last year. The militant Islamist group, whose six-year insurgency has seen thousands killed in Africa’s most populous nation and top oil producer, caused an international outcry when it took the girls from secondary school dormitories in April 2014. Don’t scrap Office of First Lady, says Prophetess

A women rights crusader, Prophetess Nonny Robertson, on Tuesday criticised calls by some people for the scrapping of the Office of the First Lady by President Muhammadu Buhari. Robertson said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday that the decision of the critics was not in the best interest of women. “It is wrong to scrap the Office of the First Lady because it is mere semantics as the wife of the president remains what she is whether designated a First Lady or not. “Calling for the scrapping of the office would adversely affect the fortunes of women and their expected contributions to nation building,” the statement said.
