National Conference Chairman's wife, Mariam Kutigi dies

The wife of Justice Idris  Kutigi (pictured above), the Chairman of the ongoing National Conference, Mariam, has passed on. She died in the early hours of this morning at the National Hospital Abuja. Her demise was announced this morning at the Conference. The conference session has been adjourned till Monday June 2nd. May her soul rest in peace...amen.

Court Orders Forfeiture Of Recovered $43m, £27,800, N23m To FG

Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sums of $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from an apartment in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Wednesday to the federal government.Justice Hassan made the order after listening to an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC through its counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo praying the court that the funds be forfeited to the federal government pending investigation. Oyedepo had told the court that the commission received intelligence report from an undisclosed source that various sums of money was kept in an apartment located at 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi. The lawyer also told the court that upon the receipt of the information, the anti-graft agency approach the court to obtain a search warrant to enable it conduct a search on the apartment. Fashola Orders Reversal Of LASU Fees To Old Charges

Mr. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university. The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has directed that the controversial fee hike at the Lagos State University, LASU, be reversed. Mr. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university. He said the fees would now be returned to the old charges. The reversal comes after months of protests by students and lecturers of the university. The Lagos State Government had, earlier in 2011, increased the fees from N25, 000 to N198, 000 for humanities and education, while medical students were to pay N350, 000. After the protests, the state government approved a reduction by 34 to 60 per cent. That reduction would have seen students pay between N76, 750 and N158, 250 depending on the faculty and year of study. That reduction was still opposed by the students and the lecturers. 2015: Atiku To Earn N1 As Salary If Elected President

A former vice president and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Atiku Abubakar, may be setting a precedent as he plans to earn a token N1 as salary per annum, if he is elected president in the February 2015 election. This indication emerged on Saturday ahead of the Policy Retreat Review at the Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, which begins Monday. The retreat is part of the campaign strategies of the former vice president, who on September 24, formally declared his intention to seek the APC ticket, come December. The Nigerian president currently earns a basic salary of N3.5 million annually while the vice president takes N3.03 million. However, the president is entitled to other benefits/ allowances.
