Nigeria's best known potter who was awarded a Doctorate and was made MBE in 1963 for the level of detail and skill she utilized while making her pots. US to deploy more troops to Iraq

Two hundred more troops and detachment of helicopters and drones being sent to protect Americans and the US embassy. President Barack Obama has said he will send about 200 more US troops to Iraq to protect Americans and the US embassy in Baghdad amid fierce fighting in the country between government forces and Sunni armed groups. The US is also sending a detachment of helicopters and drone aircraft. Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said on Monday about 200 forces arrived in Iraq on Sunday to reinforce security at the US embassy, its support facilities and the Baghdad International Airport. Another 100 personnel were also due to move to Baghdad to "provide security and logistics support." "These forces are separate and apart from the up to 300 personnel the president authorised to establish two joint operations centres and conduct an assessment of how the US can provide additional support to Iraq's security forces," Kirby said in a statement....

Benue APC chair faces panel over anti-party

The APC chairman in Benue State, Abba Yaro, yesterday appeared before the North Central Zone Fact Finding Panel, over sundry allegations. Yaro, who was at the APC Central Zonal Office, in Lafia, which was the venue of hearing, went there with all the 23 local government chairman of the party in Benue and other party stalwarts. The party leadership in the zone had last week setup a five-man fact finding committee, headed by Barrister Muhammed Liman, from Niger State, to investigate allegations of anti-party activities, financial recklessness, high handedness and arbitrary expulsions of party members among others leveled against Yaro. Yaro told the panel that he was not aware of the petition, and claimed that the petitioners did not serve him with a copy. He therefore asked the committee to give him and his lawyers one week to study the content of the allegations.
