Borno Cancells Children’s’ Day Celebration

The office of the wife of the Executive Governor of Borno State Hajiya Nana Shettima in collaboration with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has cancelled this year’s Children’s’ Day Celebration

A release from the office of the press secretary to the wife of the governor Hajiya Aishatu Muhammad Hassan indicates that the cancellation is to serve as a mark of respect to Victims of various insurgency attacks and offer special prayers for the safe and quick release of the abducted schoolgirls as well as for peace to prevail in the state and the country at large.

The wife of the Governor Hajiya Nana Shettima and the Women Affairs Hajiya Inna Galadima enjoined women and children to offer special prayers on that day because God accepts their prayers quickly in view of their love and compassion for humanity.
Meanwhile the wife of the Executive Governor of Borno State and Founder SWOT Foundation Hajiya Nana Shettima also congratulates the New Chief Imam of Borno Zannah Laisu Ibrahim Imam over his new appointment as the Chief Imam of Borno.
In a congratulatory message the Hajiya Nana Shettima said, his appointment is a clear attestation of his outstanding qualities, reputation, discipline, experience and respect for constituted authorities.

She prayed Allah to guide and protect the new chief imam and enjoined him to emulate the exemplary leadership qualities of his late father Imam Ibrahim Ahmad.

The wife of the Governor appealed to the new chief Imam to pray fervently for peace to prevail in the State and the country at large.

Buhari meets BBOG campaigners, says military doing its best

ABUJA , (Reuters) – Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held his first meeting with campaigners calling for the release of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram militants in the northeastern town of Chibok last year. The militant Islamist group, whose six-year insurgency has seen thousands killed in Africa’s most populous nation and top oil producer, caused an international outcry when it took the girls from secondary school dormitories in April 2014. Don’t scrap Office of First Lady, says Prophetess

A women rights crusader, Prophetess Nonny Robertson, on Tuesday criticised calls by some people for the scrapping of the Office of the First Lady by President Muhammadu Buhari. Robertson said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday that the decision of the critics was not in the best interest of women. “It is wrong to scrap the Office of the First Lady because it is mere semantics as the wife of the president remains what she is whether designated a First Lady or not. “Calling for the scrapping of the office would adversely affect the fortunes of women and their expected contributions to nation building,” the statement said.
