Court strikes out theft charge against sex worker

A Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Nasarawa State on Thursday struck out a case of `lover’ property theft against a commercial sex worker, Hassana Hassan.

Hassan, 25, of Mpape Abuja, was alleged to have escaped with her lover’s property and charged with theft.

The Senior Magistrate, Habila Abundaga, struck out the case following an application made by the prosecutor on behalf of the nominal complainant Agada Christopher.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Okoro, said that the matter arose from false information to the complainant, Christopher.

The court thereafter struck out the case in the interest of justice based on available information.

“The case is hereby struck out and the accused discharged,” Abundaga said.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the police on June 5 charged Hassana with theft.

Okoro told the court that the accused escaped with money and property of Christopher of Aso Mararaba in contravention of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
