U-20 W/Cup: Siasia, Babayaro Blame Garba

Former Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles’ goalkeeper, Emmanuel Babayaro and current coach of the U-23 Eagles, Samson Siasia reacted negatively to Flying Eagles’ coach, Manu Garba’s game plan against Germany in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The Flying Eagles lost the match 0-1 and Babayaro expressed disappointment with the defeat, blaming Garba whose poor tactics cost Nigeria the game.

“I don’t think Garba watched any Germany video clip before today’s match. He got it wrong in his tactics. He allowed Germany players to control the midfield from the beginning to the end of the match and our players gave the Germans too much respect and space marking which caused our defeat,” he said while analysing the tie on Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.

In his own comment, Siasia stated that Garba’s boys did not play to win instead they played more of defensive game. He also blamed Garba for bringing in a defensive player when the team were losing. Siasia disclosed that some Flying Eagles players will be drafted to his team, U-23 Eagles despite their poor performance against Germany.

“It was rather unfortunate that Flying Eagles crashed out in the round of 16. I will still consider some of the players. A player like Awoniyi will be considered along with some others,” he said.
