IPOB: If it’s Biafra, they already have it because…. – APGA chieftain


A member of APGA Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has called on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) not to scuttle the forthcoming Nov. 18 elections in Anambra state, saying if it is Biafra they want, then they already have it because all their legislative representatives, Governors and local government chairmen are their own people and from their place.

Ezonwuka told newsmen in Oba, Idemili South Council, on Wednesday that the no-election-in-Anambra song by the agitators was both illogical and out of tune with modern reality.

He said it would amount to cutting off one’s nose to spite his face, as not holding election would further worsen the plight of not just the agitators but the innocent people in Anambra.

He said: “the call for no election lacks sense; it is not in tandem with modern world especially in democratic societies.

“Why will you destroy what you already have because of what you are looking for? Just like cutting off your nose

“What are they even clamouring for? If it is Biafra, they already have it because their councilors, local government chairmen, even governors are their own people.

“What they (IPOB) should be doing now is to see how they can add value to the economic, political and security well-being of the region rather than disturbing the businesses and peace of their brothers and sisters.”

Ezeonwuka, who is the founder of Ogirisi Foundation, a socio-cultural group, blamed the army of youths available for IPOB agitations and rallies on joblessness.

The cultural leader said successive government had been unfair to the youths through their inability to provide business and economically viable environment for them to be gainfully busy.

He said if the youths calling for Biafra and agitating against democratic election had something to keep them economically busy, they would not abandon it.

“What you see is a sign of frustration; they (youths) have been deprived of their rights by governments in the South-East.

“My opinion is that leaders in the zone should not just talk with the youths but device a way to build the regional economy for youths just like Taiwan is a big economy under China,” he said.

Fayemi, Oni’s group elect new officers in Ekiti

A prominent socio-cultural club in Ekiti, the Ekiti Eleven, has elected Chief Kola Akosile as its new Chairman to replace Mr. Femi Ajiniran, after 10 years of leadership. The club has two former Ekiti State Governors: Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, now Minister of Mines and Steel Development, as well as notable politicians, including Senator Babfemi Ojudu and a former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, as members. The four of them have already begun moves to contest for the 2018 Ekiti governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. Nigeria picks Akwa Ibom, Kogi as sites for nuclear power plants

Nigeria has selected two sites for the construction of its planned nuclear power plants, as Africa’s biggest economy tries to end decades of electricity blackouts that have blighted its growth. Russia’s state-owned Rosatom, which has been in talks with Nigeria over the nuclear plants, on Friday confirmed two sites had been selected in Africa’s most populous nation and said they would have a total of four reactors. Neither side would say where the sites were, but a source at Nigeria’s nuclear agency said the sites will be in Akwa Ibom state, in southeast Nigeria, and Kogi state, in the central northern part of the country. Nigeria, with a population of around 170 million, has installed power capacity that fluctuates between around 6,000 MW to just over 7,000 MW, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, with 80 percent of its power plants fired by gas.
