Fidelity Bank empowers unregistered small business owners



FIDELITY Bank Plc has held a four-day empowerment workshop for unregistered small business owners in Onitsha, Anambra State.

A statement from the bank, said the workshop themed, “Gaining Financial Freedom through Profitable Small Businesses”, was organised to create awareness on entrepreneurship and provide unregistered businesses with useful financing tips which will spur business growth.

The initiative which is in consonance with Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) financial inclusion strategy, seeks to increase the penetration of financial services amongst the vast majority of Nigerians, particularly the unbanked and under-banked.

Speaking at the workshop, the bank’s Head, Retail Current Account, Isaac Akhere, advised participants on strategies to maintain long-term profitability and sustainability in their various businesses.

Akhere pointed out that the bank provided round-the-clock advisory services for businesses to help them maintain and sustain a successful venture. Following the lecture, loyal holders of Fidelity Small Business Account (FSBA) Individual account category were rewarded with various prizes for their loyalty.

Fayemi, Oni’s group elect new officers in Ekiti

A prominent socio-cultural club in Ekiti, the Ekiti Eleven, has elected Chief Kola Akosile as its new Chairman to replace Mr. Femi Ajiniran, after 10 years of leadership. The club has two former Ekiti State Governors: Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, now Minister of Mines and Steel Development, as well as notable politicians, including Senator Babfemi Ojudu and a former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, as members. The four of them have already begun moves to contest for the 2018 Ekiti governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. The ousted chairman, Femi Ajiniran, recently issued a statement declaring the support of the group for Ojudu’s governorship ambition. It was learnt that the statement irked some members of the group, who are staunch loyalists of Oni and Fayemi. Nigeria picks Akwa Ibom, Kogi as sites for nuclear power plants

Nigeria has selected two sites for the construction of its planned nuclear power plants, as Africa’s biggest economy tries to end decades of electricity blackouts that have blighted its growth. Russia’s state-owned Rosatom, which has been in talks with Nigeria over the nuclear plants, on Friday confirmed two sites had been selected in Africa’s most populous nation and said they would have a total of four reactors. Neither side would say where the sites were, but a source at Nigeria’s nuclear agency said the sites will be in Akwa Ibom state, in southeast Nigeria, and Kogi state, in the central northern part of the country. Nigeria, with a population of around 170 million, has installed power capacity that fluctuates between around 6,000 MW to just over 7,000 MW, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, with 80 percent of its power plants fired by gas.
