Fidelity Bank wins 'SME Friendly Bank Award'

Fidelity Bank Plc has been awarded the “SME Friendly Bank of the Year 2017” in recognition of its support for Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.

The award was bestowed upon Fidelity Bank Plc at the 2017 Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Awards.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo, the Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand & Communications, Charles Aigbe thanked the LCCI for the recognition, stating that it validates the bank’s efforts at promoting small enterprises.

“Medium and Small enterprises are the engine room of any economy thus creating a dedicated SME Banking Division that ensures that we focus on providing solutions to their challenges through a multifaceted approach”, he said.

He reiterated the Bank’s unflinching commitment to drive economic growth by helping government to reduce its dependence on oil income.

Speaking in the same vein, Senior Business Advisor, Managed SME Division, Fidelity Bank Plc, Isaiah Ndukwe said the Bank has supported a huge number of customers expand the scope of their business.

“Fidelity Bank has always being in the business of helping people grow. We are extremely happy to be associated with this and it is such a great honour to receive this award”, he stated.

The award was described as a clear testament of the Bank’s resolve to raise a new generation of entrepreneurs.

The LCCI Annual Commerce and Industry Award recognizes, promotes and celebrates private and public institutions operating in Nigeria for best business practices, growth through innovations, business sustainability and positive impact on the people and the society at large.

Fayemi, Oni’s group elect new officers in Ekiti

A prominent socio-cultural club in Ekiti, the Ekiti Eleven, has elected Chief Kola Akosile as its new Chairman to replace Mr. Femi Ajiniran, after 10 years of leadership. The club has two former Ekiti State Governors: Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, now Minister of Mines and Steel Development, as well as notable politicians, including Senator Babfemi Ojudu and a former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, as members. The four of them have already begun moves to contest for the 2018 Ekiti governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. The ousted chairman, Femi Ajiniran, recently issued a statement declaring the support of the group for Ojudu’s governorship ambition. Nigeria picks Akwa Ibom, Kogi as sites for nuclear power plants

Nigeria has selected two sites for the construction of its planned nuclear power plants, as Africa’s biggest economy tries to end decades of electricity blackouts that have blighted its growth. Russia’s state-owned Rosatom, which has been in talks with Nigeria over the nuclear plants, on Friday confirmed two sites had been selected in Africa’s most populous nation and said they would have a total of four reactors. Neither side would say where the sites were, but a source at Nigeria’s nuclear agency said the sites will be in Akwa Ibom state, in southeast Nigeria, and Kogi state, in the central northern part of the country. Nigeria, with a population of around 170 million, has installed power capacity that fluctuates between around 6,000 MW to just over 7,000 MW, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, with 80 percent of its power plants fired by gas.
